Introduction to
Criminal Justice
is a
survey course designed to introduce the student to the major
components of the criminal justice system and to enable the student
to review a wide variety of career opportunities within the field.
Various instructional strategies and technologies will be used to
explore crime, its consequences and criminological theory, the legal
system, law enforcement and community policing, courts and the
administration of justice, and the corrections system. Site visits
and research projects within the community will provide the student
with opportunities to observe practical applications and to explore
career interests in detail. Course content will also center upon
special issues such as juvenile justice, homeland security,
restorative justice and future trends in the criminal justice arena.
