Now more than
ever, jobs in hospitals and other healthcare facilities are unfilled.
The pressures of a shrinking workforce, an aging population, and
increased demand for health care services translate into jobs for highly
trained healthcare workers. The Health Science Academy provides students
the edge they need to take advantage of these job opportunities.
Students are
eligible to apply for admission to the Health Science Academy as
sophomores. Students will experience a variety of healthcare career
options in the three-year program and will receive help in formulating
the best continuing education plan for their career choice.
Students study
college prep academic classes and a health technology core, while
participating in hands-on experiences at local hospitals and other
healthcare facilities. While in clinical settings, students are
supervised by staff mentors and KACC instructors. Students in the
program have the option of observing and participating in site-based
clinical activities.
This career-based
program gives students experience in a hospital and clinical setting and
provides real-world knowledge of materials and technology used in the
healthcare industry.
