What is SSS?

Santa Support Services was a fictional corporation that was in business for the week of December 10 -14 in Mr. Quinn's classroom.  Our corporation's mission was two fold - to simply to serve the student population of Sycamore Elementary School in their gift giving needs and to educate our class about various aspects of the business realm.  Before the week started, our corporation began the hiring process.  Employment applications were filled out by each class member and the selection commitee comprised of Mr. Quinn, our human resources manager, began the process of filling positions.  The company had eighteen positions available -three executive and fifteen sales positions.  In the selection process, each application was given an evaluative score.  Letters of employemnt were then issued to all applicants, except the two highest scores.  They were invited to an interview for the company's highest position, that of cheif executive officer.  Mr. Hinkle, our chairman of the board, conducted the interview and made a recommendation for this top position.  Our C.E.O. was supported by two vice president positions each presiding over a team of sales associates.  To facilitate a team apporach, our sales associates were divided into two teams.  Overall, the week was a huge success.  Our class learned a great deal about business hierarchy, group dynamics, customer relations, and incentive programs. In addition, many of our Sycamore students now have their Christmas shopping complete for the 2001 holidays.
