The official kickoff for the 2022-2023 Kokomo School Corporation early enrollment period – Parent Choice Applications for all Magnet programs – is the annual Kokomo Schools Early Childhood and Elementary Education Fair Tuesday, Feb. 22nd, 2022 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Memorial Gym (at the intersection of Apperson Way and Superior Street) in downtown Kokomo.
Kokomo Schools wishes to invite ALL Kokomo parents and students, especially children 3, 4, 5, and 6 years old to the Education Fair. From 5 to 7 p.m., school information will be shared for students looking to start Preschool and Kindergarten, as well as information about Kokomo School Corporation programs for students grades K through 12. Both the Magnet programs and the neighborhood programs will be on display. The Education Fair will include school displays and activities, as well as computers on site to complete online Parent Choice Applications and Preschool enrollment.
Community partners who support Kokomo Schools students also will be present to share resources available to families. Some of these community partners will include: The Boy Scouts of America, Child Find – Kokomo Schools, Early Head Start, Girl Scouts of Central Indiana, On My Way PreK, Kokomo Public Schools Education Foundation, Coyote Kids Run, Indiana University Kokomo, Kokomo Howard County Public Library, Kokomo Parks and Recreation, The Very Early Childhood Education Center, United Way of Howard County, Purdue Howard County Extension Office, Purdue Polytechnic Institute, Kokomo Area Literacy Association, and Four County.
Preschool opportunities for Kokomo area students are available at Head Start (Darrough Chapel Early Learning Center), as well as at the Kokomo School Corporation school-based sites at 6 elementary locations – Boulevard STEM; Lafayette Park International; Pettit Park Academy; Sycamore International; Bon Air Academy; and Elwood Haynes STEM. Kindergarten opportunities are available at those six elementary schools, as well as Wallace Elementary School of Integrated Arts.
Families are reminded that if they are interested in applying to enroll their children in one of the Kokomo Schools Magnet Programs – International Baccalaureate (IB), Integrated Arts (IA), KEY (High Ability), and Outdoor Learning – parents must complete a Choice Application February 21st through March 25th, 2022 to be eligible for these Magnet programs. If a student is already enrolled in a Magnet program and plans to return to the program for the 2022-2023 school year, parents do not need to complete a choice application, but simply enroll their student during the regular enrollment window, which begins April 1, 2022.
Kokomo Schools includes 7 elementary schools and 3 middle (6-8) schools, and each school offers unique learning opportunities.  At the elementary level, the following programs – Career Academies, Outdoor Learning, International Baccalaureate (IB), STEM, KEY (High Ability), and Integrated Arts – are available, while our middle schools offer a Career Academy, International Baccalaureate, KEY, STEM, an Integrated Arts cohort, and Career schools (for 8th graders) at both Bon Air and Maple Crest.
At Kokomo High School, students can choose several pathways, including the rigorous College Prep Program (which features 25 AP (Advanced Placement) courses). Several academies – schools within a school – also are available at KHS, including the International Baccalaureate Academy (IB Middle Years Program (9-10), IB Diploma Program (11-12), IB Career Related Diploma Program (11-12), the State-certified STEM Academy, and the K-Tech Academy.
