Digital Platforms and Communication

All KVA courses are delivered online through the Canvas learning management system or Edmentum. Instructional content and daily interactions take place within this environment.

Google Workspace for Education

KVA students are issued a Kokomo Schools Google account to access:

  • Productivity Suite: Industry-standard tools including Google Drive, Docs, Slides, and Sheets.

  • Platform Access: The Google account serves as the login for several educational platforms, including Canvas, Zoom, and Edmentum.

  • Student Gmail: While ParentSquare is used for primary school communication, students have access to a school email for specific technical needs within the Google Workspace.

ParentSquare is the primary source of communication for Kokomo School Corporation and the KVA. It is the most effective and safest way for students and families to stay informed and connected. To stay informed, families and students should ensure their accounts are active by the first day of school.

  • Official Updates: Use ParentSquare to receive district-wide announcements, school news, and direct messages from KVA staff.

  • Two-Way Connection: ParentSquare is your best tool for reaching out to teachers and administrators. Whether you have a quick question or need a detailed update on your progress, using this platform ensures your message is seen and addressed promptly.

Required Technical Skills

Because learning is entirely online, students should be comfortable with:

  • Word processing and using the Google productivity suite.

  • Sending and receiving emails and messages with attachments.

  • Searching the internet and safely navigating digital resources.

  • Uploading and downloading files to Canvas.

  • Organizing digital folders to keep coursework accessible.

Device Responsibility and Care

Students are responsible for their school-issued devices at all times. To maintain the functionality of the device, students must adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Daily Readiness: Ensure the device is fully charged at the start of every school day.

  • Protection: Keep the protective case on the device at all times.

  • Maintenance: Keep the device free of writing, stickers, scratches, and cracks.

  • Environment: Keep food and drink away from the device.

  • Security: Always keep the device with the student or in a secure location.

  • Reporting: Immediately report malfunctioning, damaged, lost, or stolen devices to the building media clerk.
