Press and Media

KSC recognizes the importance and benefit of positive relationships with the media. We strive to ensure that media coverage is an accurate reflection of our students, staff, and official position and does not disrupt the education process.

Media access must be approved in advance, and all representatives of the media are required to check-in at event entry and must wear the provided KSC media pass for the duration of the event.

GENERAL

  • KSC reserves the right to grant, issue, deny and revoke credentials to any individual or outlet based on the interpretation and intent of these guidelines.

  • Mirroring IHSAA media guidelines, credential requests from Internet sites or specialty publications will be considered on an individual basis.

  • KSC will not consider requests from individuals whose media presence exists only on social platforms.

  • Credential requests must be made in advance of the event.

  • Walk-up requests will not be considered.

  • Media representatives covering an IHSAA event are expected to dress in appropriate professional attire.

To ensure the safety of students, staff, and the community, access to all KSC fields and courts is restricted. Photography by students, parents, staff, and fans shall be conducted from the stands and designated spectator areas.

Students are to stay in designated spectator areas.

Guidelines

To request media access, please complete and submit the Media Credentials Request Form at least seven days prior to the event you wish to attend.

Mirroring the IHSAA media guidelines, KSC reserves the right to request credentials of media members who want to conduct interviews or receive media access at events. These may include, but are not limited to: verification of employment, confirmation of a formal assignment from an editor or producer outlining the nature of the coverage, photo identification that establishes the individual as a representative of the media outlet.

Also mirroring the IHSAA guidelines, the following internet sites will not be issued media credentials to KSC events: (a) personal page internet site publishers, (b) subscription-based, pay-per-view or donation solicitation internet publishers, (c) internet sites associated in any way with the promotion of alcohol, firearms, tobacco, lottery, gambling, political, controversial or lewd issues, and (d) any other internet site deemed in poor taste or not in compliance with the mission of interscholastic athletics.

ATHLETICS: SIDELINE CONDUCT AND SAFETY

The following protocols are designed to protect our student-athletes, coaches, and staff, maintaining a secure and distraction-free environment. Failure to comply with these guidelines could result in personal injury. Individuals who are in violation of these guidelines, may be removed from the event and/or denied access to future events.

All media:

  • MUST have KSC-approved media credentials visible during event.

  • MUST stay in designated areas as specified for each sport below.

  • MAY switch sides only at the end of a quarter/half.

  • MAY NOT address the players or coaches.

  • MAY NOT walk behind student-athletes or coaches.

INTERVIEWS & PHOTOGRAPHY

Media who want to film, photograph, or interview KSC employees, students, or board members should place a request via KSC Director of Communications Laura Stiner.

Interviews will not be conducted during school hours or on school property without the approval and presence of the KSC Director of Communications, KHS Athletic Director, KSC Superintendent or designee.

*No photos/video shall be sold to the public, including coaches or any student athlete’s parents without consent from either the Communications Department or the Athletic Department.

SCHOOL VISITS

If a media member would like to visit a school, it should be arranged through KSC Director of Communications Laura Stiner. Media will need to provide a photo ID and possibly identification from your organization upon arrival. Visits during the school day may have limitations due to instruction, standardized testing, or other events. You will be accompanied during your visit by the Director of Communications or another corporation representative.
