The "Wildkat Way" was on full display at the state finals as the Kokomo High School Indoor Winds ensemble earned the title of Indiana Percussion Association (IPA) Winds Scholastic A State Runner-Up. This achievement marks a major milestone for our performing arts department. For the fourth consecutive year, the Indoor Winds team placed among the top two programs in Indiana, demonstrating a lasting tradition of excellence.
Historic Performance and Growth
The journey to the state stage included several historic highlights. Early in the season, the ensemble secured first place at its initial two competitions and earned the highest first-show score in program history. What makes this year’s success particularly impressive is the relative inexperience of the roster.

With an average age of a high school sophomore, the team featured:
Nine members competing for the very first time.
Four performers with no prior experience in a marching ensemble.
Despite these challenges, these Wildkats upheld the elite standards of the Kokomo performing arts department, performing with the skill and heart of seasoned veterans.
A Culture of Collaboration
KHS Principal Angela Blessing noted that this success stems from a dedicated work ethic and a supportive environment.
"The Indoor Winds members embody the Wildkat spirit through their musicality and their ability to rise to the occasion," Principal Blessing stated. "This success is the result of a collective work ethic, as students from all grade levels collaborated to bring this year’s artistic vision to life on the floor."
This successful season was made possible by the commitment of our student performers, the expert guidance of our KHS staff, and the ongoing support of our school families. We are incredibly proud of these students for representing Kokomo High School with distinction and for strengthening a musical legacy that grows more impressive each year.
Congratulations to the KHS Indoor Winds on an outstanding season!
