Pools, Pedals, Paws, & Pure Energy!

Energy was at an all-time high as the 2nd Annual Mini Wildkat TRY-athlon brought our community together for an unforgettable day of determination, fun, and school spirit! Young athletes from all corners of Howard County showed incredible heart, turning tiny paws into mighty claws with every stride, pedal, and splash.

For us, hosting an event like the Mini Wildkat TRY-athlon is a true team effort, and it reminds us why Kokomo is such a special place," shared KHS Athletic Director Nick Sale. "Seeing our dedicated coaching staff step up, our KHS student-athletes pour their energy into mentoring and pacing our youngest participants, and families fill the sidelines with encouragement is incredible. Accessible community activities like this are vital because they break down barriers and invite every child to experience the joy of movement, build confidence, and feel a true sense of belonging in the Wildkat community right from the start."

This year’s TRY-athlon saw inspiring milestones and remarkable teamwork across the board:

  • 100+ Young Athletes (Grades K–5): Took on the challenge to TRY, pushed through each leg of the course, and proudly crossed the finish line!

  • 25+ KHS Student-Athlete Volunteers: Representing Kokomo High School’s Cross Country, Track & Field, and Katfish Swim teams, these role models paced, guided, and cheered our elementary participants along every splash, cycle, and stride throughout the entire course.

  • 100+ Collective Miles: Swam, biked, and run by our Wildkat student volunteers right alongside our young participants to keep spirits mighty.

  • KHS Coaches & Staff: Were 100% dedicated, giving their time and leadership with high-fives, expert navigation, and non-stop encouragement from start to finish!

A massive thank you goes out to our young athletes for showing up with bravery and big smiles, our families for filling the sidelines with cheers, and our student volunteers and coaches for helping to shape the Wildkat Way. We can’t wait to see everyone at the starting line again next year!
